Yoga for Low Mood: Inviting Light into the Body

When the mind feels low, the body often becomes heavy. The chest closes, the shoulders drop, and movement feels difficult. Yoga does not demand that you become cheerful immediately. It simply invites you to begin with one breath.

Start small. Sit comfortably and breathe. Then move the neck, shoulders, and spine gently. Even five minutes of movement can create a shift.

Heart-opening poses are helpful for low mood. Practice Cobra Pose, Bridge Pose, Supported Fish Pose, and gentle standing stretches. These poses open the chest and encourage deeper breathing.

Sun Salutations can be useful when energy is available. Move slowly and respectfully. Do not turn practice into pressure.

Forward bends may feel comforting, but balance them with chest openers so the body does not remain collapsed. End with relaxation, placing one hand on the heart and one on the belly.

Yoga gives routine, and routine is very healing. When the mind feels dull, a daily practice becomes an anchor. It says, “I am still here. I am caring for myself.”

If sadness is deep, long-lasting, or overwhelming, seek support from a qualified professional. Yoga can support healing, but you do not need to manage everything alone.

Yoga prevents emotional heaviness by keeping energy moving. It brings light through breath, circulation, posture, and awareness. Begin gently, and let the practice carry you one step at a time.
